Ghana resettlement
Sharecroppers in central Ghana were resettled by a local mine, according to International Financial Corporation standards, to an area with daily access to their livelihood crops. Working with rePlan Inc. (Toronto) Thomas completed site planning and oversaw local municipal approvals for 69 families. He co-developed a modular shelter design based on local courtyard tradition and brokered a locally-owned startup ‘sandcrete’ brick manufacturing business on site to supply block for construction of the new houses. He developed a local contractor pool of 8 crews from local trades people, competitively tendering housing construction through them.
